fun and super simple easter treats

I know a lot of you have Easter traditions. We generally go to church and then head to my mom’s house for Easter lunch and an Easter egg hunt. Since we have a few days of spring break before Easter, I thought it would be fun to let the kids be a little involved in making some Easter treats to bring along with us.

We decided to go with some store-bought treats and then dress them up a bit. We always love the goodies from Sugar Bowl Bakery so we decided on Petite Palmiers, Madeleines and Petite Brownie Bites.  I love that everyone can find something they like with these treats–Brownie Bites for the chocolate fan, Madeleines for a soft, sweet cookie and Petite Palmiers for those with less of a sweet tooth–they are almost like a lightly sweet crunchy croissant.

I just made a quick batch of frosting and lightly colored it to get a pastel look.  Then I put the different colors of frosting into ziploc bags and cut a hole in the corner to use as an inexpensive piping bag.  The the kids and I decorated away.  Easter eggs, spring flowers and butterflies were a few of our designs.

I added a small dot of frosting to the top of each brownie bite and then the kids designed some flowers out of chocolate candies.

We added designs to resemble Easter eggs to the tops of the Madeleines.

We set two Palmiers together to create a butterfly.  You could use melted chocolate to fuse the halves together better.  We opted for frosting knowing that the butterfly won’t stay together when we lift it off the tray.

Of course, I love each of the treats on their own, but the decorations turned them into more of an Easter treat!
