friday June 3 is national donut day!

Somehow my oldest daughter discovered a list of these “National” celebration days. She says she was “researching something for school” but I have my doubts…Anyhow, I’m sure you’ve seen these celebration days before — National Sibling Day. National Pizza Day. National Do No Housework Day (my personal fav). There’s a holiday for just about everything these days!

Imagine how delighted she was when she saw that this Friday is National Donut Day! “We’re going to celebrate, right mom? I mean we have to celebrate! It’s a NATIONAL HOLIDAY!!!” 

This girl is serious about her donuts! And since it is a holiday….YES! WE WILL CELEBRATE!!!

Actually, National Donut Day has an interesting bit of history attached to it:

National Donut Day honors The Salvation Army “Donut Lassies”, volunteers who served donuts to the troops during WWI. The Salvation Army is actually credited with really kicking off the donuts popularity in the US through those simple acts of comfort and service.

Isn’t that cool?

This year Entenmann’s, a name synonymous with delicious donuts, is really kicking National Donut Day up a notch! They are giving their Facebook fans a chance to win FREE DONUTS FOR A YEAR and some other really fun prizes! Let that sink in a minute….10 people will win free donuts for a year! I’m pretty sure your family and/or co-workers would LOVE you!

But that’s not where the party stops! For every sweepstakes entry, Entenmann’s will donate $1 to The Salvation Army (up to $35,000)! So cool!

Of course my kids think the Pop’ems are pretty awesome, too! And the Party Sprinkled Donuts kind of scream CELEBRATE, don’t they? YUM!

We may just end up with all of them! Calories don’t count on holidays….right?
