Now that we are fully experiencing spring my kids and I have been getting outside more and more to enjoy the changes we can see all around us. Everything is an opportunity to learn from the blossoming fruit trees, to newly arrived birds building their nests, the swans determinedly incubating their eggs, to the bugs who have awakened from their winter sleep. Every where around us are new things to see, experience, and observe.

Sleeping Bear Press nature books
If your kids are as interested in nature as mine I have a few books to share for their enjoyment and to kick off those summer reading programs!

Out of School and Into Nature
Out of School and Into Nature: The Anna Comstock Story” written by Suzanne Slade and illustrated by Jessica Lanan is a wonderful book for any kids who already enjoy observing nature or who may need some inspiration to get out there and discover something new. Anna Comstock is known as the mother of nature education and this beautifully illustrated book tells the story of how she grew from a small child who was interested in everything she discovered outdoors to a woman responsible for changing the way that people all over the world learned about nature.

Good Trick Walking Stick
Good Truck Walking Stick” by Sheri Bestor and illustrated by Jonny Lambert is a fun yet informative book for your budding entomologists. Each page has some a few sentences from the simple story to read and enjoy along with some more in-depth text that teaches additional details regarding the life cycle of the walking stick. This is another fascinating creature that my kids will be sure to look for all spring and summer long!

These are the newest fun yet informative books about nature that my kids are enjoying from our friends at Sleeping Bear Press. What books about nature do your kids love to read?
