end of the school year :: new choices

We have survived a second year of COVID! Mask wearing restrictions have been lifted in the state of South Carolina. That means we are hoping for a normal 2021-2022 school year. That means that a lot of families are debating on sending their children back to face-to-face school.

This past year my eldest daughter did virtual school and I homeschooled my younger two. My eldest daughter wants to go back to school to be with all of her friends and she needs to be in a classroom setting. Our experience with virtual was very rigorous, demanding and fast paced.

As for my younger two they want to go back to school to be with their friends and because they both thought homeschooling was too hard. They both agreed that public school is much easier.

The struggles we face as parents with the past two years is that our younger children are behind grade level. I’m hoping that by keeping them home this year that they will be on grade level or higher.

Parents that I have spoken with that decided to send their children to school for 2020-2021 year have been told by their children’s teachers that they are below grade level and have no words of wisdom of how to help their children to get on grade level.

Teacher Pay Teachers is a great resource to find grade level work for your children during the summer—if you were one of those parents that were told their child is below grade level.

Another option is your local public libraries offer a Summer Reading Program. Not only do they reward your children for reading, but it will also help raise your child’s reading level. I believe reading and math are our most crucial areas that parents need to focus on to get our children back on grade level.

Will you be having your children do extra work this summer to catch up?
