{a SIMPLE Christmas} the first Christmas night :: review + giveaway

disclaimer giveaway

IMG_6922 logoI am sure a lot of you can share in my enthusiasm when I say I LOVE Christmas! I love everything about the Christmas season… the twinkle lights, the music, the snow on the ground, being able to give gifts to those I love, sugar cookies, my list could go on and on!

Amidst all the hustle and bustle this holiday season brings though, it is wonderful to have a reminder of what the Christmas season is truly all about. Everything I mentioned are wonderful holiday traditions (especially the sugar cookies!), but in the mad rush to make everything perfect we forget about a tiny baby who came into this world on the first Christmas night.

The First Christmas Night by Keith Christopher is a wonderful reminder about the true meaning of Christmas. I am sure almost everyone has heard the poem “Twas the Night Before Christmas,” and this beautiful retelling of the birth of Jesus is poetically captured in the same fashion.

About The First Christmas Night

The First Christmas NightThe First Christmas Night is a beautiful retelling of the birth of Jesus on that joyous night in Bethlehem so long ago. The poem begins with the arrival of Mary and Joseph in Bethlehem and winds though Christ’s birth, the angels’ appearance to the shepherds, and the visit by the Wise Men.  The simple, yet elegant, verses will appeal to little ones and are accompanied by the rich acrylic illustrations of Christine Kornacki.

The vibrant illustration in this book wonderfully compliment the ageless story of the birth of Jesus. As I read this story to my son, his chubby little fingers were eager to grasp the animals, angels and wise men. The pictures really jump off the page in a realistic fashion!

If you are looking for a lyrical retelling of the birth of Jesus this holiday season, be sure to pick up a copy of The First Christmas Night! {you can also try to win a copy below}

Twas the very first Christmas, when all through the town
not a creature was stirring- there was not a sound
The moon, shining bright in the heavens so high,
gave the luster of midday to the Bethlehem sky.
