a simple diy :: zta door hanger

This school year so many of my friends had children who started college. It made me think back to when I started college and Rush Week.  All my friends and I pledged, and it made me wonder if any of their children Rushed. I’ve made and sold door hangers for the home for years, but never thought about a dorm room door hanger. The themes are endlessly swirling around in my head: sorority, name & roommates name, school name or abbreviation . . . just too many to list. I pulled out my Bid Day Pillow Case for my design for this Zeta Tau Alpha Door Hanger!

SUPPLIES:

  • Carbon paper
  • Canvas board
  • Paint
  • Paintbrushes
  • Ribbon
  • Hot glue

STEP 1: Choose your design then either by printing, drawing or photocopying a template to use to trace your design. First place the carbon paper (face down) on top of the canvas board , and the design on top of your carbon paper. Trace your design lightly with a pencil because carbon paper is not forgiving.

STEP 2: Begin painting your design. You may need to paint two coats to make sure there are no transparent areas.

STEP 3: If you choose you may trace over your entire design using black. However, if you choose not to go ahead and add your ribbon to the back of your canvas board.

RIBBON: When tying a ribbon in a bow add a loop to each side with the design facing out make sure to leave the length of the ribbon you plan to use to hot glue to the door hanger (refer to the picture).  Then take the leftover ribbon and wrap it around the two loops design facing out, and leave the same length as the first. I used a needle and thread to secure my ribbon you could use hot glue.  Finally you can hot glue your ribbon to the back of your canvas board.
