children with hair loss :: annabelle’s 2nd donation :: #cutpasslove

before and after donation

The most rewarding moments for me as a mom is when our kids do something to show love towards others. In August 2018 Annabelle donated her hair to Children With Hair Loss for the first time. You can see in the collage below her cute little 8 year old moment of joy. It took her some time to be mature enough to make the decision to donate, but I’m so glad she did it in her own time.

This time was a totally different story. She woke up one morning and said she wanted to cut her hair. We were on vacation which didn’t initially seem like ideal timing, BUT California salons were shut down again so it actually was perfect timing. She got her hair cut while we were in Michigan.

There’s been some funny memes about what our hair and nails will look like after sheltering in place. Not so fun fact, we’ve been stuck in our home for 147 days. Not as strictly as it was in March, but not much is open. It’s a great time to let the hair grow and make a big donation. CWHL is taking donations during Covid.

I looked up salons near our vacation location and found a cute place on the lake. The wonderful thing about donating to Children with Hair Loss is that you can go to ANY salon. You will fill out this form and send the hair in yourself. I do suggest you bring your own little hair ties so they can section it off when they cut it, but there’s a good chance the salon will have some. We were happy customers of Inspire Hair and Nail Studio in Wayland, Michigan if you are in the area and want a recommendation.

DONATION

There’s a few ways to donate to this worthy cause: your hair, your money, or your time. There is a great page of instructions listed HERE if you would like to donate your hair. While hair that hasn’t been chemically treated is desired, they will take your highlighted hair. They will also take grey hair! 8 inches is the minimum length to donate. These guidelines were originally the reason I chose CWHL to make my first donation.

Of course monetary donations are greatly appreciated as well. When a child’s hair is lost due to cancer treatments, alopecia, trichotillomania, burns, etc., the painful effects are far deeper then just cosmetic. Please consider a financial donation so CWHL can help even more children in the future as they heal.

Are you a stylist? You can donate your time by registering your salon to fit, cut, and style a human hair replacement. If you live anywhere near Rockwood, MI you can volunteer your time at CWHL.

APPLY for HAIR

Do you know any one under 21 that is experiencing hair loss due to a documented medical condition? CWHL provides human hair replacement and a care kit free of charge to eligible recipients annually until they are 21. I’m in awe of what a generous gift this must be to children with hair loss.

I’ve been sharing about my Annabelle, but don’t count yourself out for a hair donation. I have been able to give my hair 3x since 2013. My last donation was in December. This organization will take grey or colored hair too! I hope this post inspires you to bless someone with a donation.mother and daughter hair donations
