a simple recipe :: stuffed hasselback apples {a 3 ingredient, 2 minute recipe}

This recipe is part of a collaboration as a Wella Bar ambassador.  I am not paid for this work but I do occasionally receive free Wella bars to use in my recipes.

Our family gives up dessert every January. After the overindulgence in December, it’s a good way to get into better habits each year. But that doesn’t mean I’ve lost my craving for sweet stuff! When I was really wishing for a sweet afternoon treat, I came up with this healthy, protein-packed recipe {that happens to taste like apple pie}.

Ingredients – apple (I used Pink Lady and would recommend a firm variety), pure maple syrup, Wella Bar of choice (I used Awesome Almond and think it’s perfect).

Directions – Cut the apple in half and cut out the core. Make small slits along one half of the apple (like in the picture above). Drizzle with maple syrup (I didn’t measure but I would guess I used a Tablespoon at most). Cook in the microwave for 1 minute. Stuff with crumbled Wella Bar.  TIP: If you or your kiddos aren’t a fan of apple skins, you can definitely peel them first.  I like to keep them on for added nutrients.

That’s it!  Recipe perfection.  I love that I can make just one treat at a time and it takes all of 3 minutes from start to finish.  However, if you prefer not to use a microwave, you can easily bake these apples at 400 degrees for around 20 minutes in a covered baking dish.  And then you can easily quadruple the recipe:)  I’m not going to lie, friends.  I licked the plate after this one (shh…don’t tell my kids!)  Give it a try and see if you can resist licking your plate, too!
