a simple {real food} recipe :: bread dipping olive oil

Over the summer, we were blessed with a bottle of *real* olive oil. I mean, like straight from Greece 🙂 We have some dear friends that have a family farm there, where they press their own olives every year. It is the most delicious olive oil you will ever taste!

I drizzle it over veggies with salt and pepper, combine it with vinegar for dressing, and make homemade mayo from it…but lately my favorite is making a dipping oil for some delightful sourdough bread we get every week from our local bakery – The Village Baker. It is the most beautiful bread, and full of sourdough probiotic goodness to help digest those grains!

Gorgeous sourdough bread from The Village Baker in Spring Lake, Michigan!

Play around with the seasonings to your taste! Enjoy!

Here’s what you’ll need:

¼ cup extra virgin olive oil (local is going to be best – read this to learn how to find good olive oil)

1 tsp Italian seasoning

½ clove mince garlic (optional but SO good!)

¼ tsp sea salt

1/8 tsp pepper

Bread for dipping of your choosing (Support your local bakery if you can! Sprouted flours and soured dough will digest the best and are the easiest on the tummy!)

  1. Whisk oil and seasonings together in a shallow bowl or dish.
  2. Dip away!

Kitchen Tips:

  1. This also makes a great dressing with added vinegar over salad or veggies!
  2. Read this and this about the importance of friendly fats in your diet and why you shouldn’t be afraid of them!
  3. This has been my naptime snack of choice over the last few weeks 🙂 I need a boost of energy after the long morning, and the friendly carbs and fats do the trick! And sea salt is nourishing to taxed out adrenals 😉

YOUR TURN!

Tell me how you would use this bread dipping oil! Let me know how you like it if you try it!

Who’s gearing up for packing school lunches soon?! Come back Wednesday and I’ll show you  how to batch make soaked granola bars to fill their tummys with a great power snack that is easy on the gut, cheap to make, and minus the junk that most boxed granola bars have!

We do this often! My recipe is similar to yours, but I do add a little fresh grated Parmesan to it from time to time. I’m jealous that you got some REAL olive oil though. 😀
