twenty-five books for the season :: #aSIMPLEchristmas book list

Posted on November 28, 2014December 2, 2014 by Bridget

IMG_1374For the past few years Ive been seeing an idea to wrap up 25 books and open one a day to read with the kids and I’ve always wanted to do it. Unfortunately, I’m forgetful and  I’m also a procrastinator. For the previous years I’ve forgotten until at least a week or two into December. I was excited about this year though, because I thought about it before December even started! But… I haven’t bought wrapping paper and probably won’t until at least the 15th. I try to avoid going to stores after Thanksgiving. Anyway, what we usually end up doing is having a big basket of holiday books and I let the children pick out a new one to read each night. It may not be pinterest-perfect, but we still enjoy it! So what are our favorite holiday books? My kids like holiday-only type books, but they really love seeing their favorite series characters in Christmas books.

  1. Christmas Mouse by Michael Brown
  2. Pete the Cat Saves Christmas by Litwin & Deans
  3. pat the Christmas bunny by Edith Kunhardt
  4. Hanukkah Lights (poetry book) by Lee Bennett Hopkins
  5. The Berenstain Bears Trim the Tree by Jan & Mike Berestain
  6. My Merry Christmas by Sally Jones
  7. Elmer’s Christmas by David McKee
  8. Olive, the other Reindeer by Seibold & Walsh
  9. Ho, Ho, Ho, Tucker! by Leslie McGuirk
  10. The Night Before Christmas Illustrated by Mary Engelbreit
  11. Star of Wonder Illustrated by Dan Crisp
  12. llama, llama holiday drama by Anna Dewdney
  13. Fancy Nancy Splendiferous Christmas by Jane O’Connor
  14. Olivia Claus adapted by Kama Einhorn
  15. Eloise at Christmastime by Kay Thompson
  16. How Do Dinosaurs Say Merry Christmas? by Jane Yolen
  17. How Do Dinosaurs Say Happy Chanukah? by Jane Yolen
  18. Bear Stays Up for Christmas by Karma Wilson
  19. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (A Little Golden Book) by Rick Bunsen

I did this with both of my kids when they were little! I bought them new books to unwrap each night in December (like an Advent calendar). Then in January, they would pick out a few faves to keep & then we’d donate the rest to our library!

I’ve done that before and my daughter loved it! I should do it again this year now that she’s a few years older.

This is a really great list–I will have to see if I can find some of these at our local library.
