road safety tips for moms traveling to dallas

Posted on October 8, 2019October 9, 2019 by Jaime

Going on a trip to Dallas should be on your top priority list for this year. The city is among the US’s top cities that attract a massive number of visitors. Far from pop culture portrayals, Dallas is an urban city home to a diverse population. It has a thriving nightlife and emerging art and music scene. That being said, going on a road trip to Dallas should be on your bucket list! However, you should note that due to the influx of visitors to the city, car accidents increase in numbers as well. Based on the latest study by Allstate Insurance Co., drivers in Dallas are more prone to be involved in crashes than drivers in most other Texas cities. To enjoy your road trip to Dallas, here are some tips to help you prepare for your trip:

Prepare your car for Travel
Before you set out for your trip, check if your car is fit for a long drive. Make sure to check the following:
● Brake fluid
● Power steering fluid
● Tire pressure
● Spare tire
● Indicator lights
● Air conditioner
● Tools
● Seatbelts
● Windshield wipers
Make sure also to check if your tires have any wear and tear — replace them if they’re showing signs of extreme wear.

Avoid Distractions
When you are behind the wheel, remember that you are responsible for all the lives of those in the car with you. According to most Dallas Car Accident Lawyers, a large number of the cases they handled were a result of distracted driving. True enough, data from the Texas Motor Vehicle Traffic Crash Facts shows that as many as 451 people died in crashes involving distracted driving. Refrain from using your phone while driving; it’s safer for everyone this way.

Take Necessary Breaks
Driver fatigue is also a huge factor in most traffic accidents. Make sure to take regular breaks. If you’re coming from New Mexico heading to Dallas, make sure to take 15-minute breaks every two hours. Better yet, plan your stops in interesting places for that classic road trip experience. If you have another person who drives, switch with them as necessary.

Prepare Travel Meals
Traveling with little ones can be a challenge, especially during long drives. They will whine and complain. Keep them entertained by preparing travel meals and games that they can keep busy with during the trip. Keeping them occupied means you can focus on driving.

Stay Alert and Anticipate
Be a defensive driver. Stay alert and anticipate traffic situations. Always be aware of other road users other than you. Use your mirrors regularly. Keep to the posted speed limits and drive slowly in areas with high foot traffic.

Don’t Drink and Drive
We all know this tip. In fact, this should not be written at all. It is necessary knowledge that drivers should not be driving under the influence of alcohol. It endangers your life, your passengers’ lives, and the lives of other people on the road.

Inform Your Family of Your Trip
Often overlooked by many is informing relatives where you are headed. Make sure you let someone know from your family that you are going on a road trip to Dallas, so if anything happens, they know where to go.

Have Fun
Going on a road trip is all about having fun with your family. Make sure that you get to do what you set out to do during your trip. If you plant to explore Dallas’ amazing culture scene, then go ahead. Look for activities that you and your family can enjoy while on your trip.
Staying safe on the road is always our goal when we drive. After all, no one wants to be in an accident. When we prepare for long trips ahead of time, we make sure that we will enjoy the rest of our journey with our loved ones. It is essential to let your kids know about safety precautions.

If possible, train them on what they should do, should you encounter any accidents.
