6 super savvy suggestions for a bedroom upgrade

Take a look around your master bedroom. If you can see a cluttered space with an untidy bed and a ‘chair wardrobe’, raise your hand. Don’t worry, I’m not judging; we all have at least one room in the house that has a little bit of mess going on. The thing is, your bedroom should be a haven of relaxation and somewhere that you can be comfortable to relax in at the end of a very long day. It’s not supposed to be a place that makes you tense up in misery because it’s just an extra place for you to do housework.
haven of relaxation
It’s the last place on the list to decorate for most people, but it doesn’t mean that you should allow it to be so. Money may be tight and the budget may be as wide as a shoestring, but there are some gorgeous decorating tips out there that can give you everything you need for a space to be proud of. Below, you’ll find six super savvy suggestions for a beautiful bedroom!

A Lick Of Paint

Paint is cheap. It only takes a few gallons to give your bedroom an entirely new look. I always say, “if I can fix it with paint, then I can fix it.” I love to paint and have worked my painting magic on every wall inside our home. Another tip is to pick a neutral tone so that you can change out accessories when you want to and they’ll still match your walls. This will save you from repainting as frequently, but still allows you to makeover your space when you feel the urge for change.

Do Your Research

One way to ensure you get your bedroom change up on a budget is to change the furniture as cheaply as possible because the mattress can feel like a big expense. We are currently looking for a mattress because we have had trouble with the one we bought a few years ago. Click here to read about mattresses that will match your budget needs. There’s a lot of great information that can help you buy the perfect mattress for your bedroom upgrade.

Gallery Wallminted photo art

You can use this website to print your photos in inspirational ways to create a gallery wall and make your bedroom beautiful. They have an incredible selection of art too. Sometimes I feel like it might seem vain to have our family photos all over our home, but I love my family and it brings a smile to my face to see photos of the people I love on display. I have a photo of our family with a gold foil pressed silhouette of California that is my favorite. Find a variety of decorations and mix them all together to make your own gallery wall.

Second Hand Chic

Believe it or not, you’re going to see a lot of fantastic bargains in thrift stores. Old ugly chairs can be revamped and upholstered to a more beautiful fabric that matches the color scheme of your bedroom. It’s cheap as chips and twice as cheerful. (That’s a new phrase I heard recently and I’ve been dying to use it.) I desperately need to redo the rocking chair in our corner. For now there is a strategically draped blanket to hide it’s ugliness.

Add Some Layers

Your bedroom may have a neutral theme, but layering your bed and your floors with colored textiles and blankets is going to give your room a color theme and warmth. As you can see in our room, I have a runner on the floor for some variety. My fellow Costco shoppers might recognize it. It’s a high traffic area so we needed it for function too. I personally have always had a white duvet paired with an assortment of sheets and pillows. I like variety and it’s my favorite time of year when I break out the flannel Christmas sheets and pillows. There are many fun ways to change around your room if you have a neutral base to work with.

Pick Expensive – Just Once

I’m the penny pincher, did I just say that? Choose one area of your bedroom to splurge a little bit of money on. Whether this is going to be the mattress that you choose or your dresser that you will use every day – you need to have at least one splurge-worthy item. I work hard to save money on large purchases, but I also appreciate quality for the items we use every day. Speaking from experience, I wish we bought better dressers, but I can work on doing better next time we are in the market for furniture.

I hope these tips inspire you to work on making your bedroom the boudoir of your dreams!
