25 days of christmas stories… for free (nope, not a giveaway!)

So I’ve been seeing all these posts floating around about an awesome idea to read a Christmas story every night before bed. As I let my mind wander and think about how fun it would be sitting in our pajammies and sipping tea while listening to a Christmas story each night, I came to the saddening conclusion… buying 25 books to put under the tree is expensive!! I decided that this year just wasn’t going to be the year to start this family tradition. It was something I would have to save up for.

But then… we were spending a fun evening returning books to the library when I had a lightbulb moment. “Excuse me,” I asked the clerk. “Do you happen to have a children’s book Christmas section.”

“Of course!” the sweet clerk replied, and she proceeded to take us to the back of the library where not a shelf or a bookcase was covered with Christmas stories, but an entire WALL of books!

I sheepishly looked at the sweet lady and asked, “How many books are we allowed to check out?” When she told me 30, I couldn’t contain the look of sheer astonishment on my face. I could have just kissed her!

So while my little boy “ran” around the library, my husband and I had a fun time picking out 25 Christmas stories that we wanted to read to our son…. some stories were familiar to us and others were brand new.

Now my dream is coming true! We sit around the Christmas tree reading a book each night, illuminated by the twinkling lights of the tree, and sip our tea. Well most nights… let’s be real here, some nights my little guy is too tired to behave and it ends in a melt down, but hey! We have started a wonderful new family tradition and my little guy looks forward to pulling a new book out of the basket each night… all thanks to our local library!

This is a fantastic idea. We have a few Christmas books that we’ve been reading a LOT, but I know my daughter would love to read others. I know it’s close to Christmas this year, but I’m excited to do this all during December next year!

This is a great idea I wanted to do this too but I only have about 12 of my own Christmas books. I will have to remember this for next year.

Great story with your excitement and what a great idea as well to read a book a night like this. We have been watching a different Christmas movie a night but like your idea. Maybe next year I will do this as well
