welcome to summer gifts for kids

Americana Pillow Pet was provided for the purpose of the review.  All other Pillow Pets were purchased ourselves.  Yes, we have a few:)

A few years ago I started a tradition with my kids. On the last day of school (or the first real day of summer if I need a little extra time), I give each of them a gift. The gift is meant to be made up of things they may need or want during the summer–a lot of it may be things I’d need to buy them anyway, but it’s just more fun in the form of a gift. It is usually fairly low-key but my kids really look forward to getting a few new things to use all summer long. I’m sharing a few of my favorite things to give.

Beach Towels.  Ours take a beating every summer.  Lots of sun, sand, chlorine.  Occasionally one gets left behind.  It seems we end up with not enough towels and the ones that are left have definitely seen better days.  So it’s nice to get new ones–and if each kid gets their own, it can totally work as a gift, right?

Sand and Pool Toys.  We have collected quite a few toys in this category over the years but it’s always fun to have something new.  We love dive sticks, trucks that can drive through sand (we love to make “streets” at the beach) and even golf tees–“tee” is the favorite game if we take friends to to the pool.

Bubbles and Sidewalk Chalk.  Again, these are things that occupy my kids and also get used up during the summer.  So it’s a great time to replenish.  I like to buy the giant container of bubbles to refill smaller containers throughout the season.  I’ve tried making my own solution but the recipe called for sugar and the ants came running!  If anyone wants to share a tried and true recipe for homemade solution, let me know!

A Pillow Pet.  My kids have a few of these!  From my son’s favorite Carolina Panthers Pillow Pet to my daughter’s unicorn Sleepytime Lite that she’s had for years, we’ve gotten quite the collection.  I can’t wait to give my 5-year-old the newest Americana Pillow Pet.  He already sleeps with his puppy Pillow Pet every night and he is going to LOVE the red, white and blue puppy even more!  My kids love to take their Pillow Pets any time we go away for the night.  They double as a stuffed animal and a pillow, they are so soft and they are BPA and phthalate-free.  Plus, they are machine washable.  Everything I need in a stuffed toy!  What Pillow Pet would your kiddo love most?
