When you are a stay-at-home-mom you have to get creative when it comes to making extra money.  One way I make a little extra money is my Teachers Pay Teachers Store, Uniquely Yours By Shay.  It’s a great to go to your PayPal account and find out that you have been paid for lesson plans you created and posted to your Teachers Pay Teachers Store!  I’ve had an account for years, but didn’t start creating actual lesson plans until a friend of mine began homeschooling her children.   She was very happy with her academic curriculum, but not so pleased with her fine arts curriculum.  After she expressed her concerns to me I created six art lesson plans to correlate with her current curriculum Classical Conversations.  They were using the book, “Discovering Great Artists” for the art portion of the course.

If you homeschool you may be familiar with lapbooks.  I know that some public schools also use this concept when they are studying units.  A lapbook is designed for your student to put everything they learn into this book that they create.  In my supplement to “Discovering Great Artists” I have included vocabulary, answering questions about a famous artwork (critic), important facts about the Renaissance artist, famous painting and a lesson plan for creating a piece of art like the artist was famous for.  When they finish the lapbook also serves as a way to store your artwork your student has created or it can go into a portfolio to prove to your homeschool association that you taught visual arts.

I have also started creating supplemental materials for my son’s favorite books.  For Christmas I created a supplemental packet for the “A Pirate’s Twelve Days of Christmas”.  Not only did I create an entire 12 days worth of activities I also divided up the lesson plans based on the teacher’s individual needs; for instance, math, ELA, art and music supplements.  This way a teacher can pull the supplement that is needed to complete his or her lesson.  I also have a sample of rules and procedures that you can download for FREE here.

Even if you are not a teacher you could benefit by going to my store. I have a lesson plan for making a Memory Quilt. I created the one on the lesson plan from my niece using all of her t-shirts from different activities that she is involved in; such as, dance, youth group, cheerleading, etc. This would be great to make for all of your children or just make one big one each year to remember your students by.
