lishy lou and lucky too! :: review

W138A few weeks back I was very excited to open our mailbox and find an advance copy of Lishy Lou and Lucky Too! waiting for our listening pleasure. We immediately put the new album from one of our favorite kindie groups and started to listen… but wait!

While the album was still full of the fun, upbeat (and slightly offbeat) music that we have come to love and expect from Lucky Diaz and The Family Jam Band, Lishy Lou and Lucky Too! is not your typical album full of back to back songs.  This album is special.  You see, it was done in the style of an old-time radio hour and is full of skits, jokes, and sound effects. (No, no, no – not those kind of sound effects, think slide whistles and crinkling paper.)

Like all the other albums we have from Lucky Diaz and The Family Jam Band, the music on Lishy Lou and Lucky Too! was able to get my girls dancing along.  This time though my 6-year-old was able to find some new comic gold thanks to the many kid-friendly jokes shared by Lishy, Lucky, and their friends.

To give you a little taste of the songs included on the album here’s the music video for one of our family favorites “Thingamagjig” (seriously, this song has been running through my head the whole time I typed out this review).

Here’s a little synopsis about the album to give you a better idea about how it’s set up ::  Lishy Lou (Alisha Gaddis) and Lucky (a real-life husband-wife team) live together in a magical treehouse. Each episode presents a problem that Lishy, Lucky and their myriad of friends and guests solve together. They’re a bilingual household (English and Spanish) that is always filled with music and dance, encouraging movement and learning through song.

You can also go learn more about each of the friends who makes an appearance on the album at the Lishy Lou and Lucky Too! website, giving a face and persona to each of the friendly voices you get to hear on the album.  Another great album from one of our all time favorite children’s groups!
