You know a DVD is a kidtacular hit when they not only want to watch the episodes over and over, they want to watch the extras that are interviews with the authors or illustrators.

Bink & Gollie DVD CoverThis is case with the newest DVD addition to our house from New Kideo‘s Scholastic Storybook Treasures series, Bink & Gollie …and more stories about friendship.

As indicated in the title of the DVD the episodes are headlined by “Bink & Gollie”, from Kate DiCamillo (the Newbery Medal-winning author of Because of Winn Dixie and The Tale of Despereaux) and Alison McGhee. My girls and I loved watching the interview extra for “Bink & Gollie” with the illustrator Tony Fucile, who has won the Theodore Geisel Award and has an extremely impressive resume of his own. No wonder we loved the illustrations! (These episodes are narrated by Kate Micucci and Riki Lindhome.)

Bink and Gollie are two girls who are VERY different from each other but who manage to compromise and accept each others differences to form a great friendship.  My girls LOVE, LOVE, LOVE watching these fun girls interact through adventures in mountain climbing, fish ownership, and eccentric sock choices.

The DVD also includes the following episodes related to the friendship theme ::

A Sick Day for Amos McGee” (by Philip C. Stead, illustrated by Erin E. Stead, narrated by David de Vries) – Amos receives unexpected guests from the zoo when he’s home with the sniffles and sneezes.

The Other Side” (by Jacqueline Woodson, illustrated by E.B. Lewis, narrated by Toshi Widoff-Woodson) – A friendship develops between two kids from opposite sides of a segregated town.

Cat and Canary” (written and illustrated by Michael Foreman) – Cat’s unlikely friend Canary shows him a great time when his master is away at work.

As I mentioned there are some great extras on this DVD of interviews with the authors or illustrators for the stories that even my 5-year-old enjoyed watching (which is really saying something since those types of things aren’t usually entertaining for a kid).

Approximately 36 minutes + extras.  Check out the DVD page HERE for the free Bink & Golly printable they have!
