how to make your own solar eclipse viewing glasses :: diy options

If you are like me, I just found out two days ago that a solar eclipse is coming. On the 21st. Yes, I’m behind.

Since I just found out, getting glasses to protect my little ones’ eyes was my immediate concern. But, the options on Amazon are next to none. And, what’s available, I don’t even know if they are legit. Unless I want to spend a LOT of money. Then, there’s that.

That got me thinking! I remember when I was young, in science class we created SOMEthing out of a box to view the eclipse. A cereal box I think! So, naturally, that’s what I’m going to have to do with my kids now. Not taking a chance at getting some goggles that don’t work!an easy diy create your own solar eclipse viewing glasses LOGO

Below are a couple options I found when looking. I hope you can find something that works for you! Sure, Pinterest has a ton of options, and I’m sure the end game is MUCH cuter, but let’s be real. We don’t really need cute, we need protection at this point!

Accuweather has one and a video about it!
Wikihow not only has a DIY but a lot of GREAT info about what and what not to do in a solar eclipse.
Instructibles has a step by step guide to make your own solar eclipse glasses.
Refinery29 has a NASA approved hack for creating your own way to view the eclipse.

Also, a couple things to note…

*Your pets know not to look at the sun. Clearly, they don’t have the rebellious nature that us humans have.
*This is occurring on the 21st.
*DON’T use your camera unless you want it to break. Something will happen to the lens. I’m sure there’s more to this, but all I know is that I won’t be trying to take pictures…

I’d love to hear from you! What are YOU doing with your kids during this solar eclipse?
