fancy nancy the musical, original off-broadway cast recording :: music review

My daughter loves Fancy Nancy books. Consequently, she also loves to play dress up.

Her favorite Fancy Nancy book is the Mermaid Ballet, in which Nancy wants to be a cast as a mermaid in the ballet, but she’s actually cast as a tree. {oh, the horror!}

A couple of nights ago, my kiddo refused to go to bed unless she was dressed as a mermaid. I’m not even kidding. A rainbow-capped, purple-tailed mermaid with a gold purse and silver belt. And, of course, one red glove.

So when I heard about Fancy Nancy the Musical, naturally I was curious about the soundtrack. Also, because I was in plays in high school and love musicals. I can’t imagine where my daughter gets her dramatic flair… *pffft* … *shrug*

It turns out that most of this musical focuses on Lily’s favorite Nancy book! Perfect! “What I’ll Be” is definitely Lily’s favorite because it talks about mermaids.

I think that this quote sums up the feel of the Fancy Nancy world: “All it takes is just your own imagination to turn a playroom into one fit for a queen. Anyone can be fancy…!” I love the focus of the Nancy books on being imaginative with things as simple as a broom or a scarf.

Fancy Nancy is perfect for my imaginative kiddo. The musical brings Nancy to life, and that’s such a special and magical thing for a kiddo!

Doesn’t that look cute? I’d love to take my kiddo to a live performance! She’d love it!
