easy cold brew coffee at home :: recipe

Isn’t cold coffee in summer one of the most wonderful things? I mean, it is the one time of year we moms can enjoy our coffee cold on purpose! (As opposed to the rest of the year when we enjoy cold coffee by accident.)

Over the years I have come across many fun looking cold brew coffee recipes online but they either assumed that I would have a lot of speciality equipment or a massive amount of fridge space to devote to multiple gallons of coffee. If you need an easy recipe to make cold brew coffee at home here is my go-to method.

Ready to give it a try?  You’re going to need ::

  • a quart-sized mason jar with a resealable screw-on lid
  • coffee grounds
  • a spoon
  • cold water
  • French press (*if you don’t have a French press see below for alternate filter instructions)

Once you have all your supplies and ingredients ready…

  1. Add three HEAPING scoops, or 6 leveled tablespoons, of coffee grounds to your mason jar. Adjust the amount of coffee for future batches depending on your tastes
  2. Fill the jar with water and then gently stir the coffee grounds at the top of the jar with the spoon to help get the air bubbles out. Top off the water as needed.
  3. Put the lid on the jar and place in the refrigerator for 1-2 days. About halfway through the time you will let it sit give the jar a gentle shake. Wait until the majority (or all) of the coffee grounds have settled to the bottom of the jar.
  4. Slowly pour the coffee in to your French press and press as normal. Since the coffee grounds have settled to the bottom of the jar slowly pouring will help you avoid getting any of the sediment that has settled with it in your finished cold brew coffee. *If you don’t have a French press secure a coffee filter to the top of a jar with a rubberband and then slowly pour the cold brew through the filter.
  5. Pour over ice cubes and ENJOY!

You may have noticed that my photos show two quart sized jars of coffee being brewed at the same time. I like to double my batch because I am a HUGE coffee drinker and then I have enough for two days once I’ve pressed my cold brew coffee.
