choice boards for distance learning

I’m not sure what types of assignments your children have for their Distance Learning, but my younger children have “Choice Boards”. Basically they choose one of two assignments per subject: math, ELA, PE, Art/music, social studies and science. However, after we selected the easier of the two assignments last week he was asked to complete the same “Choice Board” for this week.

For PE my son’s choices were to create a hopscotch and practice skip counting. Try different ways to arrange your hopscotch. If you do not have chalk, you can use numbered sheets of paper. Write and draw about the different ways to arrange your hopscotch. Be sure to use correct spacing between words, capitalization, and punctuation.

Or he could, think of your favorite exercises from PE class. Practice the exercises in sets of ten. Count out loud while you are practicing.  For example, he could do 10 Jumping Jacks, 10 Sit Ups, 10 Lunges, 10 Push Ups, 10 Hops on one Leg, and 10 Big Arm Circles.

He already chose to do his exercises last week she had to do the hopscotch assignment.  This concept was very hard for a first grader, and actually be able to play the game hopscotch correctly. He was able to complete his assignment with a little help from me, his mom. I drew out the boxes so he could write his numbers in them, and then showed him how to play.

Once we were finished playing hopscotch I drew out a large cross for us to color together. When my other two children saw what we were doing g it turned into a family activity that went well into the night. After we finished coloring the cross the girls came out and wrote bible verses.  They finished off the chalk by writing happy birthday messages for my middle child.  I can’t believe that we used our suitcase full of sidewalk chalk, but we did!
