bestway above ground pool from Costco :: 22 x 12 x 48 :: favorite family toy

disclaimer no giveaway

Have you stopped to stare at the pool hanging from the ceiling of Costco and wondered if your family would enjoy it? I’m here to tell you that it was our favorite purchase for our family in 2022. I can’t say that viewing it in the rafters of Costco really sold me on it, but that’s why I write about the things we are loving.

In May we took advantage of the Bestway pool sale at Costco and got our 22x12x48 pool for $699. (Watch for the $100 off discount they offer early in the season.) I never know how Costco does it, but this was half the price of the same pool on Amazon (affiliate link) and Walmart‘s sites. I opted to use the free delivery vs taking the box home from the store myself. The delivery men wheeled the box to my backyard, and I got to work setting it up. I watched THIS video and set up the pool all by myself.

I had a very big advantage when it came to setting this up. I already had a flat surface. The most important part is making sure you have level ground because the pool cannot be more than a couple inches off from being level or it will be compromised. I was concerned our area might not even be suitable, but thankfully it was. I did put down a little bit of sand and a weed barrier strip to be certain it was prepared properly. If you’re curious, it was only $36 of water to fill the pool. I believe it’s around 7,000 gallons.

The pool comes with a pump, and I learned the art of keeping the chemicals balanced. It was not hard, but I did get test strips and monitored it. I found an affordable vacuum that hooked to the garden hose. I tried to keep the cost down as we invested in this backyard toy.

Our kids swam almost every single day for 6 months. California is very hot and miserable most of the summer, but we didn’t complain about going outside once we got our own pool. I never dreamed we would use it as much as we did. Many days we swam 2-3 times a day. Here are some clips of our pool in action. We are a family of 5 and we could all comfortably float and swim around in the pool without it feeling too crowded. It was such a wonderful way to spend countless hours of summer together.

While you can leave the pool up and cover it, we opted to take it down for the winter. We had 6 amazing months of swimming, but we wanted our space back. It was a little harder to take it down, but nothing our family couldn’t handle with some teamwork. THIS video guided us in the process of taking it down and I have it wrapped in a tarp like a burrito for the winter.

Please let me know if you have any questions about this pool. I know it’s the end of the season, but you can plan for making this purchase in the Spring.
