You do not have to hit rock bottom to understand that sinking feeling of watching your life spiral down the drain, but there does have to be a moment of clarity, an “awakening” to the fact that something is missing from your life. “There will be a desperate moment, a difficult circumstance, maybe a deserved consequence, when you will realize that your way isn’t working and you need your heavenly Father.”
Your life may not be spinning wildly out of control, but there is an area in all of our lives that we refuse to surrender to God and keep locked up tight in our souls. We don’t want others to know we struggle with debt, with anger, with jealousy, with alcoholism… name your “struggle” here. Kyle Idleman‘s book AHA is a wonderful read that encourages us to examine our lives and fully surrender EVERY area to God.
Throughout the book I found myself laughing at Kyle’s personal examples and funny wit, but I also found myself saying “ouch” a few times as he said something that hit a little too close to home. It made me have an honest chat with myself and realize that I am not perfect and have a lot that I need to surrender to God and let HIM work on, even if on the outside I appear to “have it all together.”
The steps of AHA:
- Awakening to the reality of who we are in Christ
- Renewed honesty to see our need for a Saviour
- Inspired to action, we obey God and follow Christ’s example
Even if it seems you have no where to go, give it to God and He will lift you up, brush the dirt off of you, and cloth you with a joy that is indescribable… but first you need to have that AHA moment!

I believe in doing the right thing and I am always looking for ways to improve myself and my family. I think that people are getting further away from Christ nowadays.
Emi… I totally agree! It is sad to see how hard people’s hearts have grown to the love of Christ!
I am a SAHM to three and loving every minute. Most minutes – LOL!

I am happily married to my soul mate for almost 12 years. I will be celebrating my 50th birthday next week (1/22). I have two adult daughters ages 30 and 27. I have two daughters at home ages 11 and 7. I homeschool my 7yo. I also have three granddaughters ages 8, 4 and 18 months. And for fun, every time I take a bite out of an apple it is shaped like a heart!
Happy birthday! My birthday is the 21st, so we’re practically sisters 🙂
Driving a car scares me so I didn’t get my license until I was 28.
Thank you for sharing that! We all have our own fears we have to deal with… Thankfully there is Someone to help us through our fears. Psalm 118:6 “The LORD is with me; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?”
I’m 37 years old and am married with a blended family of six kids. I work as a 911 dispatcher, have a blog, and am on the local roller derby team. Thanks.

I am easy to please. Love being a mom to my girls. I always try to look for the good in the bad. I hate to admit it, but I am a little impatient.
I could have just written that myself… except the “girls” part (I have a little man). 🙂
I’m a mom.
Best thing there is!
About me: I love to read!
Meeeeee toooooo!!!!!!! 🙂 I actually just initiated “reading night” at our house… no TV, no music, nothing… just me, my hubby and books!
My husband and I are planning to have a baby soon (once he finishes up with Graduate school), and are excited about the prospects of expanding our family. I am a homemaker currently, but was a nanny prior.
We love being out in nature and watching documentaries! 🙂
There is nothing more fulfilling than being a mother! Good luck with planning a family… enjoy the journey 🙂
