If your carpet is stained, frayed or otherwise damaged, it might be time to call in the professionals. But what if you’ve never used a carpet cleaning service before? How can you tell the good companies from the bad? If you’re in the market for a carpet cleaner, here are just a few tips for choosing one that you can trust.

  1. Know What You Need – There are different types of carpet cleaning depending on your particular issue, so try to find a company that specializes in what you need. For example, if you just house-trained a puppy, you might want a stain removal expert. If your carpet is made from special fibers, you might want someone with special steaming equipment to clean it.
  2. Think Green – If you’re environmentally conscious, make a deliberate effort to find organic carpet cleaners in your area. They’ll have sustainable business practices and use all-natural products without harmful chemicals. It’s easy to find them, too; just type something like “green carpet cleaning NYC” into a search engine.
  3. Check Their Credentials – How long have they been in business? What are their reviews like? Are they accredited by any professional organizations like Carpet Cleaning Repair Installation Certifications (CCRIC)? There’s more to carpet cleaning than throwing down some baking soda and vacuuming it up, so make sure that your professionals are trained and certified.
  4. Ask About Price – Some companies will charge you by the hour. Others will charge you by the room or by the day. Don’t be afraid to sit down with your carpet cleaner and hammer out the details of fees, prices and surcharges; it’s better to know these things in advance than get a crazy final bill. As a bonus, talking about your finances with the company might get you a special deal or discount.Carpet-Cleaner
  5. Get a Guarantee – It’s important to figure out liability issues before carpet cleaners come into your home. Who will pay for a broken vase? What happens if a chemical reacts unexpectedly to your rug? If the cleaning isn’t as effective as promised, what kind of refund can you expect? It’s better to be safe than sorry when it comes to contracts.

These are just a few tips for finding and selecting a carpet cleaner. The fate of your fibers could depend on your choice, so take your time and consider all angles.

You’ll want to have full confidence in the brand. Good luck!

I have had my carpets cleaned with companies who were not too good. The last company I found did a wonderful job. I am most interested in the “Green” companies and glad I found one that uses natural and organic products.

We have carpet. I can’t wait to get rid of it and get hardwood floors. Carpet just gets too dirty and is hard to keep clean.
