Screen Shot 2014-04-02 at 7.47.55 PMWhen it comes to my children’s bedrooms, I try to keep things simple and uncluttered. A bed, one dresser, a changing table (that doubles as off-season storage), a bookcase for toys and stories, and a good reading chair. If it doesn’t belong in one of these zones, it needs to be evaluated.

Aesthetically speaking, even when they were newborns I didn’t want the space to be too obviously baby. I’ve always maintained that a piece of furniture should be versatile enough to withstand a baby growing up to be a toddler, then a toddler to a big kid, and so on…

In our nursery, the changing table is a vintage buffet table I found at a garage sale and painted a buttery yellow. The chair is a classic mid-century rocker, and the bookcase is a versatile double-sided mobile bunny bookcase from Ace Baby Furniture.

Furniture that can grow with the child, it’s simply the best. Because when form meets function (yes I have a degree in interior design, is it showing?), great things can happen. We’ve been patient and have searched a good long time to find the perfect bookcase, and when we laid eyes on the functionality of Ace Baby mobile bookcases, we knew we found THE ONE to grow with us.

A book nook to call his own. Made perfect with the @AceBabyLA bunny bookcase. Complete low-down coming soon on @thesimplemoms blog.

A few reasons we love our “bunny bookcase”:

1. It’s double sided. So many bookcases you can only store things on one side, but not this guy! Sure, you can still scoot it up to the wall parallel if you want, but having two sides does mean double the storage, and double the options.

2. The bunny design is playful, but not too inherently childish. It looks great it the nursery, but will transition well over time.

3. Built to last through the decades. Constructed out of high quality melamine panels, the extraordinarily sturdy bookcase (trust me, it’s not going to tip over easily) sits on lockable casters. Right now we’ve positioned it as a divider between the bed and a wall to create a cozy book-nook area.

4. Versatile color choices. We decided on natural maple finish, but there are 4 other really awesome color choices as well.

We’re obviously over the moon with excitement, spending lots and lots of time in our newly created quite time space. And if bunnies aren’t your thing, might we offer you a bear or lion, perhaps?

Or maybe a Closet Stand. Yes, you definitely need a closet stand.

What a unique looking book case! This would be so cute in my grandson’s play room. We have so many books and don’t have a nice way to organize them. This would be perfect!
