go green this st. paddy’s day :: 9 eco-friend ideas

Print pageEmail page

9 simple steps _ greenWhen I was little, St. Patrick’s Day wasn’t a big deal. I mean, we wore green and did the pinching thing but that was all, really. Now there’s a crazy leprechaun who makes a mess (that then has to be cleaned up by the person who actually made the mess to begin with) and “gold” chocolate coins that we “need” because it’s been a little over 4 weeks since Valentine’s Day and we still have about 5 weeks until Easter. That logic is lost on me. Sorry.

But something I do think is really logical is the idea of going green. I know, I know…we weren’t talking that kind of green but just think of the simple things you could change that would make the world a better, greener place. In the past few years, our family has made many little eco-friendly changes that have added up to a happy, healthier lifestyle. Here are a few simple ways to go green this St. Paddy’s Day:

  1. Use natural cleaners or make your own
  2. Go paperless in the kitchen with these diy napkins
  3. Pack snacks and lunches in eco-friendly containers
  4. Go green with your laundry by using rockin’ green soap
  5. Buy upcycled products from places like etsy or terracycle
  6. Bring a bag or two with you to the grocery store (These are my absolute favorite!)
  7. Ditch disposable water bottles and get reusable ones like this for adults or these for kids
  8. Give fair trade a fair chance. (If you haven’t tried fair trade chocolate, you’re really missing out.)
  9. Make fresh food for your family. Our own Renee has shared lots of her “real good” real food recipes

My favorite is Bring a bag or two with you to the grocery store, plus most stores will give you a discount if you bring your own bags
