thankful heart thursday :: warmth and water

Thankful Heart ThursdayHappy Thankful Heart Thursday!!  It was pretty easy for me to come up with a topic of thankfulness this week as I sat at my computer in my nice warm home.  Many of our friends were left without power this week after a storm came through with high winds on sunday night.  Those friends were left trying to figure out how to make it through the week with dark, cold homes.

I felt bad for those friends, for sure, but it made think a little bit deeper, too.  As bad as it was for them, they knew the power would be restored, and life would go back to normal.  Well, what about the people in the world who live without the convenience of electricity??  What about the homeless who endure the cold winter nights without heat or shelter??  I realized that I tend to take for granted the fact that I can walk into a room and switch the light on, I can kick the thermostat up a couple notches if I’m cold, and when it storms, the roof over my head keeps me safe and dry.

So, for today, I am thankful for things that I sometimes take for granted.  I am thankful for a warm home with electricity and running water.  I am thankful for the safety that that home provides me and my family, and I am saying an extra prayer tonight for those who are not quite as fortunate as I am.
