thankful heart thursday :: the sweetest sound #tht {link up}

Happy Thankful Heart Thursday!!  In honor of my favorite day here on SIMPLE, I thought I’d let you in on a little secret.  My daughter is 6 years old, but I still use a baby monitor in her bedroom!  I know what you’re thinking, but hear me out.  I have a feeling that when you finish reading this, you’re going to be dusting off your own monitor and wondering why you ever put it away :)

I have been singing to my daughter, Lexi,  since she was just a wiggle in my belly.  When she was a brand new baby, we would dance and I would sing every single day.  I like to believe that her desire to sing along with me, was what drove her to speak her first word at just 5 months old :)  First came “Momma”, then “please” and “thank you,” and they just kept coming from there.  By the time she was 13 months old, she had memorized and was singing along to the entire Bob the Builder theme song :)  So now, 6 years later, that’s kind of our thing.  We sing and dance when we’re happy, we sing and dance when we’re sad, and we usually default to singing and dancing if we’re just plain bored, too!

SO, we like to sing and dance together, I’ve made that pretty clear, but she has the music in her even when I’m not around.  THAT is why I still use a baby monitor on my 6 year old daughter!  I cannot tell you how many mornings I am woken up by the sweet sound of her little singing voice through that monitor.  There is absolutely no better way to wake up and start the day!  A child’s voice, especially YOUR child’s voice, is such a precious thing and it doesn’t last forever.  Our kids are continuously growing and changing, and while that is all part of the process, it is a little sad.  My hope is that my daughter always has the music in her, and always shares it with the world{or at least her Momma!}.

Because as much as I LOVE being the other part of her duet, her precious solo is the sweetest sound!

So for today, I am thankful for the sweet voice of a child {especially MY child} AND for the monitor that I listen through to hear it!  I don’t think I’ll be packing that away any time soon! :)

How about you??  What are you THANKFUL for today??

We are linking up this week. Please take a moment to link up to your blog. Here is your chance to be on SIMPLE! After you link, please visit someone else who has linked up as well.

    Long, long time ago I can still remember when that music used to make me smile…
    Yes, a little tiny girl named Nee used to sing to her little brother Matty and then much later to her even younger brother, Eric. She’s been singing all her life. As they say the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. I’m thankful for those memories and my wonderful adult kids.

  2. Prayers are coming your way, Jaime, that she is rid of the stone soon! So glad that she’s doing well!!

  3. I love this. I am very thankful that my daughter doesn’t have more then 1 kidney stone anymore. It is truly a miracle that we have come to this point. The one she has is tiny tiny and I have faith will be gone soon.

  4. Thanks for sharing, Renee! Being a SAHM really is a balancing act, but we are definitely rewarded on a daily basis if we make time to see it. So glad to hear that you’re adjusting and loving your time with your girls! You are so blessed!

  5. This is JUST PRECIOUS :) Thanks for sharing!

    That got me to thinking about how thankful I am that I have actually been able to be home for the last year to hear my girls wake up in the morning. When we moved with my husbands new job last year (to this day actually!) we decided to see how it would go with me not working! LOTS of sacrifices, budget learning, and missing some friends later we are doing it :) Somedays I really miss my patients and adult interaction and, well to be honest (and selfish maybe?) I miss the thankfulness and reward of my job I did for so many years. BUT it doesn’t compare to being able to be there in the morning when my girls wake up, getting to have jammy morning once a week where we don’t get dressed til later, and getting to see every little milestone they make :) SAHM is WAY harder than I thought it would be. And can be super thankless at such a young baby age as my girls are. But I know it’s worth it. And I’m so thankful I get to be there :)

    Thanks for getting my thoughts in line this morning!

  6. Awwwwe! Thanks, Shannon! I just finished reading your link-up, too, and I am sooooo happy for you and your family. I commented on your post that it sounded a lot like my “Ask and you shall receive” post on Mommaste a few weeks ago. God ALWAYS gives us what we NEED!! :)

  8. That is so sweet Nee! What a great perspective and attitude. Usually I hear my kids in the morning and I let out a huge uuuuuuggggghhhhh!!! Today, I am thankful for the city we live. We went down to Artprize last night, and I felt so blessed to belong to this amazing community.

    • We do live in a cool city, don’t we! I just finished reading your link-up and I LOVED it! Thanks for sharing your Thankful Heart! :)
