alison faith levy :: world of wonder cd {giveaway}

Print pageEmail page

Every time we listen to World of Wonder by Alison Faith Levy, I can’t help but think that it could be turned into a Broadway musical for kids – this album just has that feel to it, in my opinion. It’s got the right blend of energy and storytelling that lends itself to a stage production. I wish I could explain that better, but feelings can be hard to put into words *smile*

There are a variety of musical influences in this album, and every song has its own personality. “Carole King, Elton John, Phil Spector, Godspell, The Zombies, The Byrds, Dusty Springfield, Pentangle, The Flaming Lips and XTC are just some of the influences that can be heard wafting through World of Wonder.” Her rendition of “Itsy Bitsy Spider” reminds me of the styling of The Shangri-Las, a pop girl group from the 60s (remember “Leader of the Pack”??). “Reach for the Sky” has gospel overtones and “Like a Spinning Top” is a total rock anthem.

The title track “World of Wonder” is a beautiful tribute to our natural world (and beyond) through a little drop of water, a tiny grain of sand, a expansive nebula of stars… this is most definitely my favorite song on the album. Check out the beautiful video:
