We are an avocado eating family. Because avocados have a very soft texture and sweet flavor, it’s one of the first food I give my babies. Needless to say, my kids have grown up on them and LOVE them. While their favorite way to eat avocado is sliced on buttered toast, I love to make guacamole and scoop it out of the bowl with tortilla chips. Did you know that avocados growing season is year-round in Mexico?
While playing with your food might not be proper, it sure is fun! Avocados from Mexico are hosting a super fun Halloween recipe contest, called “Spookamole”. They’re looking for the most goulish freaky green recipe utilizing the famous Hass avocado.
Of course I wanted to enter this.
My submission? Avocado Ice Cream.
What you will need:
3 ripe Hass avocados
3/4 cup sugar
1 cup sour cream
1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
juice of one (1) lime
Pit the avocados, scoop out fruit, and toss in food processor (or blender, that’s what I did). Puree.
Mix into the avocados the sugar, lime juice, sour cream and heavy whipping cream. Blend well.
Transfer mixture into ice cream maker.
Churn in ice cream maker according to appliances instructions. I blended for around 12 minutes.
Make scariest face you know how. Avocado ice cream, it’s frightening stuff.
Store in freezer, and wait until unsuspecting older sisters come home from school.
Serve it up.
The consensus? Although it looks and sounds scary disgusting, it taste really great. Two thumbs up, even by the dog (who I’m not even sure has thumbs).
Ok, your turn. Go ahead and enter the Avocado’s from Mexico “spookamole” Halloween contest. You could win yourself $1,000. Read official rules here. Contest runs though September 30th, 2011.
